School Effectiveness is at the heart of current educational thinking:
raising expectations, promoting a climate of success and enabling the reaching of high personal and academic standards for all pupils.
 
The Dorset School Effectiveness Service leads schools in this area:
Combining encouragement with urgency and clarity about standards with advice about how to raise them.
 
The School Effectiveness Service is responsible for implementing and developing Dorset's Education Development Plan.

The Dorset Schools Effectiveness service:
- Aims to encourage all schools to improve themselves.
- Enhances schools ability to do so through offering the following support:
 
- Provision of planned and effective professional development - restoring teachers professionalism, competence and confidence.
 
- Special Needs support - working in conjunction with Pupil and Parent support services to ensure that special schools are seen as part of the family of schools and that high quality special need support is available in all Dorset Schools.
 
- Personnel support - helping Dorset schools to recruit and retain good people.
 
- Curriculum support - creating the links and support networks, which enable Dorset, schools to raise standards for all across the curriculum.
 
- Financial and management support - allowing schools to provide Best Value.
 
- Analysis and interpretation of performance data - allowing the LEA to monitor the performance of its schools and allowing schools to track and support pupils progress.
 
- Ensuring that no Dorset school goes into special measures through established procedures both of support and when necessary, intervention.
 
- Supporting all aspects of early years learning through the Early Years network.
