Mr Calvert climbs crazily
If you were at Moors Valley last Saturday you would have been surprised to see our new head teacher swinging through the trees.
Mr Calvert who only came to our school last month joined in with other parents and staff to take part in a sponsored aerial assault course at Moors Valley. They were there to raise money for the school and for the pre-school. William Sexton, a year 4 pupil watched the whole thing. "It was really exciting. Mr Calvert looked petrified",  he told our reporting team.

Fantastic Fun For After School
Pupils are really enjoying the after school activities on offer at St Ives.
On a Wednesday a crowd of children get changed in the hall and run out onto the field. Mr Neil Prince, the coach for Bournemouth Ladies footballers, coaches them and is accompanied by Miss Cake. They play until 4pm and then go back into the hall to get changed and go home. The pupils of Year 4 and 3 say, " We love this club because we learn new skills and our game is improving lots, we also have loads of fun".
On Thursdays at 3pm the netballers go out on to the playground and sort the teams out. Mrs Tarling starts off by showing them new passes and then the children practice these in games. She also has to look after the children. Each team has five children. They play netball until 4pm and then get changed ready for home. Kitty Legg reports, "Netball is a connective game, I like playing with all my friends and trying out difficult passes. I’ve also scored a few goals".

HEAD’S HAPPY HALF HOUR!

Mr. Calvert, our new head master has a new type of assembly .He renamed it: Celebratory Assembly." The new assembly takes place in the hall. It goes on for whole 30 minutes. From 2:30pm-3:00pm. Parents can also come to Celebratory Assembly as well. Mr. Calvert gives out certificates, unlike Mrs. Evans and Mrs. Jeans who just gave out stickers. People win certificates because of their hard work and effort. The dinner-ladies, teachers and teaching assistants give out the certificates. Mr. Calvert doesn’t let shield-holder hold the shield anymore. He really enjoys Celebratory Assembly.

New Faces at First School
St Ives saw the arrival of two new teachers at the beginning of term.
Mr Calvert began on 8th September 2003 as our new head teacher. He came from Henbury View First School and took over from Mrs Evans. He has changed lots of things and by ‘Going Ape’ he has raised money for the school.
Children in Year 4 say, "He’s made this school a better place, its more fun". Mr Calvert thinks, "It is cool to be at St Ives First because everyone works hard and has fun"

Miss Cake is the new year 4 teacher. She has 20 children in her class. Miss Cake chose this school because all the staff are really friendly. Year 4 pupils think she is kind, smart and cheerful.

St. Ives School Makes Harvest Cool!!!
This year the children of St. Ives put on a performance about Harvest at 2:00pm on Wednesday 1st of October 2003
in their school hall with parents as an audience. Year 3 told us all about the ‘send a cow’ appeal, what it and how it can help other people in need. Year R showed us their apple tree paintings and chanted a rhyme about a farmer’s apple tree. Year 4 said a poem about autumn written by Jemima Wakelin. Finally years 1 and 2 performed some vegetable rhythms and sang a song. Last but not least Reverend Grace came and said a few words about the appeal too. When asked what the parents thought, Mrs. Atwell, and Mrs. Wakelin said, “I think they where all fantastic!”
