THE ONE WORLD BAND!!!

The One World Band came to Powerstock School on Tuesday 6th March 2001.Years three and four listened to the music and sang along. We made up a song about school during the work shop session. It was really funny. One of the verses was about Connie Forrest breaking the bell and one about lessons. The other verse is about the teachers getting a whistle and the children running away.

By Connie, Emily and Harriet.

Our song.

The way we started the rhythm was by swinging our arms and clicking our fingers. We counted to four then we added in words to make a song. We had to choose the words carefully to make sure it fitted in with the rhythm. At the end of each line we had to make sure it rhymed.

By Becky

This is our song:

When we were at school

We had maths and literacy.

Half past three, it’s time to go home.

RE, science, geography and history

Half past three, it’s time to go home.

Lessons are so boring

What we like is swimming.

Half past three, it’s time to go home.

Connie broke the bell

So it stopped ringing.

Half past three, it’s time to go home.

When she broke the bell

We had to stay outside all day

Half past three, it’s time to go home.

We then bought a whistle

All the children ran away

Half past three, it’s time to go home.

The Band and the instruments

Each member of the Band comes from a different country. These are the countries:

- Chile

-The Gambia

- England

- India

They played different instruments. One of the instruments was called the box. Some of the drums had animal skins on the top. One of the instruments was made of an armadillo.

A visit from the One World Band

Today we greeted every member of the Band using their language. They sang and played their instruments to us. We sang with them and we learnt actions with them as well to go with the songs. We clapped to the songs. Then we learnt the songs they had made up. We like the songs. We sang the songs with them. We loved the sounds that the instruments made.

IT WAS BRILLIANT FUN AND WE LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT!
